Make Wall Hanging Sleeve

Aqs has the leading hardware for hanging quilts at our shows which may be different than some contestants have used in the past.

Make wall hanging sleeve.

This new system requires some give in the sleeve on the quilt so the rod can slip over the hanging hook properly. A quilt hanging sleeve can be permanent or temporary and it can be sewn on after or at the same time you apply binding a hanging sleeve allows a quilt to hang evenly preventing the stretch that nearly always occurs when you secure the project to a wall with a series of pins or other fasteners. Now since my wall hanging is small and a 4 wide sleeve is quite unnecessary i ve cut my strip to 8 x 5 8 for the width of the wall hanging and 5 instead of 8 1 2 which is what you would need to make a 4 wide sleeve. For a larger wall hanging make the sleeve 9 inches long.

Measure and cut the sleeve fabric to size for your fabric art. Hanging sleeves are also used to mount quilts at shows and competitions. Larger quilts require a hanging sleeve attached to the back to accommodate a wooden dowel or decorative curtain rod. A hanging sleeve is a fabric tube sewn to the back of a quilt to make it possible to hang the quilt on the wall.

Adding a hanging sleeve may take a few more minutes but it will be worth it in the long run.
